What is the Minimum Wages Act, Jharkhand?

The Jharkhand state government follows the Minimum Wages Act 1948, which allows the Jharkhand government and the central government to release updated minimum wages each year. It is mostly done by the state government of Jharkhand, and this year, the government released the updated notification. 

There are three zones in Jharkhand, and the minimum wages for all four categories differ based on the zone. Here are the minimum wages of Jharkhand:

  • For unskilled workers, the minimum wage ranges from ₹11050 to ₹12168 monthly, based on the zone. 
  • The semi-skilled workers must get ₹11596 – ₹12766 per month. 
  • The skilled workers earn ₹15288 – ₹16822 monthly. 
  • The highly skilled worker can make ₹17638 to ₹19396 per month.

1) Unskilled Workers

The minimum wages for unskilled labor with expected gross salary are as follows:

As per the Jharkhand government, the DA is raised to 50% of the basic pay, but it depends on the employer deciding on the DA.

What are the Components of Gross Salary in Jharkhand?

Gross salary is made up of several components. These components contribute to the net salary before any deductions. Below are the four main components of gross salary in Jharkhand:

1) Basic Pay

Basic pay can be equal to or higher than the minimum wage, but it cannot be lower than the specified minimum wage in Jharkhand.

2) Dearness Allowance (DA)

Dearness Allowance helps employees manage the rising cost of living. The Jharkhand government has regulated a 50% DA for employees, and companies calculate the final amount based on these guidelines.

3) House Rent Allowance (HRA)

House Rent Allowance (HRA) is a portion of the salary provided to cover housing expenses. It is calculated as a percentage of the employee’s salary.

4) Conveyance Allowance

A conveyance allowance is an allowance given to employees who commute to the office and back home. We have assumed this allowance as ₹1600 per month.
